Natural Resources

The overall objective of the Natural Resources Department, within the Division of External Affairs, is to contribute to the long-term sustainability of the industry by providing support to industry members as custodians of natural resources, encouraging responsibility for sustainable resource management with a commitment to legislation that governs environmental issues. Establish good relationships with regulators and pressure groups and improve perceptions of the industry's long-term sustainability.

To achieve these stated objectives management would:

• Promote and project the image of the industry through participation in relevant government forums.
  
  
• Sensitise key stakeholders in government and in the private sector on the contribution of the industry to sustainable resource protection.
  
  
• Evaluate new natural resource developments and trends which could adversely impact on the sugar industry's members
  
  
• Create and maintain positive support by key government decision makers and interest groups.
