External Affairs Division: Social Investment Programme Officer
The Development Department (part of the External Affairs Division) of the South African Sugar Association facilitates the effective implementation of feasible and sustainable development projects and programmes in order to develop the communities that depend on the sugar industry for a livelihood.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the technical feasibility and sustainability of projects aimed at developing sugar industry dependents and communities in sugarcane producing areas, facilitating local development in sugar areas and ensuring effective field implementation of projects and programmes.
The following are the key performance areas of the job:
• Supporting local involvement and ownership of development projects
• Increasing awareness of the sugar industry development programmes
• Identifying and assisting pioneers of development with their development initiatives
• Networking, building relationships and liaising with relevant stakeholders
• Communicating development programmes and success stories
• Evaluating Sugar Industry Trust Fund for Education’s (SITFE) bursary applications for funding and making recommendations
• Co-ordinating the delivery of SITFE special educational programmes
• Creating awareness of bursary schemes and participating in bursary selection
• Monitoring and evaluating effectiveness of bursary schemes
• Participating in the social investment committee to obtain and evaluate proposals and to present proposals and progress reports
• Providing administrative support, drafting and distributing agendas, establishing contractual agreements, processing payments and collating progress reports.
You will need the following to be successful in this position:
• A three year degree in development studies with project management and organisational development;
• At least three years’ experience in programme coordination and administration, and in interpersonal facilitation;
• A valid light motor vehicle driver’s license.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to:
• work independently as well as in a team;
• plan and organise own work and co-ordinate the activities of others;
• network and build relationships with stakeholders
• listen and understand information and ideas presented verbally and in writing in English, isiZulu and Siswati.
• communicate information verbally and in writing in the above languages.
• monitor and evaluate data against relevant criteria.
