SA Sugarcane Research Institute: Database Programmer
The SA Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI) invites applications for the position of Database Programmer, in the Diagnostic & Analytical Resource Unit based at Mount Edgecombe.
SASRI operates a large Oracle database, which houses all the research data. This post involves:
· Maintenance and update of existing systems including the addition of new features. · Development of new systems. · Construct complex PL/SQL queries to satisfy ad hoc user requirements. · Assist and advise users on effective use of the database. You will work closely with agricultural researchers in order to assist them to make most effective use of the database. Good user support and inter personal skills are thus essential.
Applicants should have:
· A B.Sc (Computer Science) or B. Tech (IT). · Training in Oracle programming and database modules as part of your degree or as subsequent training · Knowledge of/experience with Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports and programming within these tools. · 3 years experience in database programming with at least one of these being with an Oracle database. · Specific experience with Oracle databases and PL/SQL is thus essential . · Strong analytical abilities with attention to detail in data management.
