The Sugar Terminal, part of the South African Sugar Association's International Marketing Division, has a vacancy for a Fitter at Maydon Wharf in Durban.  The Sugar Terminal is a bulk sugar handling and exporting facility that is ISO 9001 accredited and has a throughput of approximately one million tons of sugar each year. 

The Job

Reporting to the Mechanical Foreman, the incumbent will be responsible for the following: attending to preventative plant maintenance and breakdowns of conveyer belts, screw mixers, and general pneumatic and hydraulic systems (including rigging related tasks for equipment less than five tons); performing ship-loading duties such as panel operator, etc; ship loading is a twenty-four hour operation when in progress and therefore involves shift work; carrying out project work and plant modification as and when required; required to be on standby on a rotational basis approximately once in every five weeks.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be a South African national with a matric, recognised trade certificate from a reputable trade testing institution, three to five years post trade test experience in a factory or mining environment, and a code EB drivers licence.   Experience in the maintenance of medium sized gearboxes, the ability to work from drawings, rigging and pipe fitting skills, and a working knowledge in the use of computer would be advantageous.

Package

Remuneration is commensurate with a position at an ''entry level specialist,'' a Paterson grade C3 / Peromnes 10 / TASK 11 / Hay 291.
