Applications are invited for a position of Tester to be based at the Noodsberg Sugar Mill and the Felixton Sugar Mill respectively. Cane Testing Service provides an analytical chemistry service to individual mill group boards to calculate the recoverable value in cane deliveries. Representative samples are taken form these deliveries to calculate the recoverable value. The miller uses this value to calculate payment to the grower. CTS operates on a 24-hour basis at thirteen mills throughout the sugar belt.
 
Reporting to the Testing Supervisor, the Tester will be responsible for the routine analysis of cane samples.  Supervision of shift personnel will also form a key performance area.
 
This position requires a dynamic individual with excellent leadership abilities. Applicants should have either a Matric qualification with Mathematics and Science or National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry, coupled with three years laboratory experience, preferably in a supervisory capacity.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a necessity. A sound knowledge of laboratory standards is important.
 
Payment benefits are in line with those for the Bargaining Council for Sugar Manufacturing and Refining Industry. As CTS is a 24-day operation. shift work and overtime are compulsory. A shift allowance will be paid for all shifts worked.
